This from our far flung correspondent in Bend: A couple of inches of snow leftover from storms Thursday and Friday refroze and slowly thawed under the pressure of 'cross tires, feet and occasionally shoulders Saturday at Bend's Seventh Mountain Resort for the first of two Crossaflixion Cup races. A massive run-up on a pine needle slush mash of iced rock was matched with a brake-squealing downhill for a course that will have competitors scheming studded tires and more hill-running for a second race, planned Saturday, Nov. 28.
