It was just the blink of an eye since Nationals in Bend, right? Except the grass was green, not white as it was in Bend, at Hood River Valley High School Saturday for our first photographic cyclocross outing of the 2010 season. A lot of people took advantage of the green lushness, pre- and post-ride.
Only one of the pdxcross crew - Mike Davis - could make it out for this season's opener so there aren't as many pictures as usual but you can bet we'll ramp up soon.
The course was compelling, as usual. A couple people even called it pleasant. Given the combination of forest, creek bed and football practice field to race around on the 1.3 mile course, it was definitely a diversion worthy of 'cross. Two bridges over that lovely little creek that has no apparent name were slick as cow snot early on. One pileup on the second bridge left one rider tumbling into the creek - sorry, no pictures of that, I was close enough to hear it but not capture it.
Beyond that, there was a feeling of new beginnings, of pushing muscles further than they've been pushed for a while, of comerades-in-arms doing battle against the terrain. Which means all is well, again.

I look forward to the PDX Cross photo's on Monday almost as much as I do racing on Saturday/Sunday. And when you combine it with spammers selling cheap Ugg boot knock-off's what's to lose?
